Neurodiversity-affirming support

At Brighter Steps, I create personalized therapy plans based on each child’s abilities, communication style, interests, and daily challenges. My work focuses on increasing communication and emotional expression, supporting daily living and independence, reducing anxiety and stress, enhancing social and play skills, building coping strategies and strengthening family relationships.

Who can benefit from neurodivergent & autism support?

Autistic children & young adults

Those who need support with communication, social skills, emotional regulation, or daily routines. Children who benefit from structured, predictable sessions and young people who may experience anxiety, sensory overwhelm, or difficulty coping with transitions.

Neurodivergent children

Children who struggle with attention, impulsivity, or managing emotions. Individuals who need help developing organizational or adaptive skills. Kids with learning challenges who would benefit from tailored strategies and gentle guidance.

Parents seeking tools & guidance

Families who want to better understand their child’s needs. Parents looking for strategies to support behavior, communication, or emotional well-being at home. Caregivers who feel overwhelmed and want consistent, evidence-based support.

Applied behavior analysis (ABA)

ABA is an evidence-based approach that helps children learn meaningful skills by understanding how they learn and interact with their environment. It focuses on breaking skills into small, achievable steps and teaching them in a way that feels natural, positive, and supportive.

 This means:

  • We set goals together with the child and family

  • Sessions follow the child’s pace and interests

  • We use positive reinforcement — never pressure or force

  • Learning takes place through play, interaction, and everyday activities

The goal is not to “change” the child, but to help them:

  • express themselves more easily

  • feel safe and understood

  • build skills that make daily life smoother

  • grow in their own authentic way

Why ABA Can Help Neurodivergent Children

ABA is helpful because it is:

  • structured but flexible

  • individualized

  • measurable (so you can see progress)

  • practical for home and school

  • collaborative — the whole environment can support the child
