About Brighter Steps

Who I am
Hello!
I’m Effie Votika, a child and adolescent psychologist based in South Holland. I specialize in supporting children, young adults, and families, with a focus on neurodivergent individuals and those navigating emotional or developmental challenges.
I hold a MSc in Child and Adolescent Psychology from Leiden University, where I specialized in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and trained in WISC-V assessment and interpretation. I also earned a BSc in Psychology from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Greece. Over the years, I have completed professional training in Play Therapy, Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), and School Psychology, as well as numerous programs on child mental health, learning disabilities, and neurodiversity.
I have worked as a behavioral therapist, providing ABA, CBT, and play therapy to children and adolescents. I collaborate closely with parents, schools, centers, and municipalities to create consistent, individualized support plans.
I have gained experience at The Smile of the Child in Athens (observing therapy, providing creative play and emotional support), and at the SAMA Autism Centre in Amstelveen (behavioral assessments, therapy planning, and parent support). I have also worked directly with children in families, supporting structured educational and recreational activities, including for children with Autism, ADHD, and Down Syndrome.
I’m passionate about providing evidence-based, creative, and compassionate support that empowers children, young adults, and families to grow, build confidence, and thrive. Every step we take together is focused on making meaningful, positive progress — one step at a time.
