About Brighter Steps
Who I am
I’m Effie Votika, a psychologist based in South Holland, working with adults, young adults, and families.
I hold a MSc in Child and Adolescent Psychology from Leiden University, where I specialized in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and psychological assessment. I also earned a BSc in Psychology from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Greece. Throughout my professional development, I have completed additional training in Play Therapy, Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), School Psychology, and various programs focused on mental health and neurodiversity.
I am currently undertaking professional training in Schema Therapy, deepening my work with adults experiencing long-standing emotional patterns, relational difficulties, self-criticism, anxiety, and recurring life themes that feel difficult to change.
My work with adults focuses on:
-
Emotional regulation and self-understanding
-
Anxiety and stress-related difficulties
-
Relationship patterns
-
Self-esteem and identity development
-
Persistent inner criticism or shame
-
Life transitions and personal growth
I integrate evidence-based approaches such as CBT with a schema-informed perspective, helping clients understand not only their current challenges, but also the deeper patterns that shape them.
My background in developmental psychology enriches my adult work, as many emotional patterns have their roots in early experiences. This allows us to approach difficulties with compassion, depth, and clarity.
I value a therapeutic space that feels safe, structured, and collaborative. My goal is to support you in building awareness, resilience, and meaningful change at a pace that feels right for you.
Every step we take together is focused on steady, authentic progress.
